GOLD AND SILVER EXPORTS. By Telegraph—Pies.o Association. Wellington, Friday. During the past six months 177,280 ounces of gold, of a value of £698,691, were exported from the Dominion, being an increase of 6998 ounces, valued at £26,396, compared with the figures for the corresponding period of last year. The export of silver during the first half of the present year was 356,003 ounces, valued at £37,584, a decrease of 142,027 ounces, valued at £14,220. The quantity of gold exported last month was over IS,OOO ounces, of tae value of £68,767, more than in June last year.

An a result of the competition held between tlio Garrison Artillery Companies o£ the Dominion during the defence year just ended for all-round efficiency, the shield has been awarded to No. 2 Company, Port Chalmers Garrison Artillery. The shooting cup went to No. 4 Company, Lyttelton, and the Hudson cup for quick-lire shooting to No. 7 Company, Auckland. Out of niius companies, only one, No. 2, Port Chalmers, are classified as special, while none of the remaining eight are classified at all. The total points secured by the various companies in the competitions were: No. 2. Company (Port Chalmers), 573 points, 1; No. 7 Company (Auckland), 523 points, 2; No. 4 Company (Lyttelton), 507 points, 3; No. 5 Company (Wellington), 487 points, 4; No. 3 Company (Wellington), 455 points, 5; No. 6 Company (Auckland), 443 points. 6; No. 1 Company (Auckland), 420 points, 7; No. 9 Company (Wellington), 379 points, S; No. 8 Company (Wcstjort), 317 points, 9; No. Company (Westport), 317 points, 9; No. for "special," as its figure for heavy guns (86 points out of 125 was not sufii- j cient).
