CLIFTON COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MISE'fJN'G The ordinary meeting of the Clifton County Council was held at Waitara yesterday, when there were present:— Crs S. It. Bower (in the chair), K. T. Hicks, S. Elliott, W. Jones, S. ,). Kennington and IT. Sander.
THE ROADMEN'S COTTAGES. Messrs Bevins and Iliggs. nnsucces--ful tenderers for the erection of two surfacemen's cottages, wrote re the timber that they alleged was being pu', into the cottages by the present contractor.
The matter was refcired to the en gineer to report at next meeting.
NELSON ROAD.
Mr E. G. Blackley drew attention to the almost impassable utate. of the Nelson road. He pointel out that £l7 3s had been .spent on the road and- that he had done work himself to the value of £11) l(is. This was spoilt, however, by a settler making a road into bis property and running the water on to the road, besides ■putting r.irth on the road. This settler, he averred, had had never contributed ti the making of the Nelson road, and Mr Jilcakle.y asked that he slu.uld be compiled 'by ti:;' Council to repair the damage. The engineer pointed out that no man had a right to make a road wfthi,ut obtaining the consent of the Council. Mr ISlcakley. he considered, certainly had a grievance. '
It was decided to leave the matter in the hands of I.li<! engineer.
WANDERING CATTi.I
Mr G. L. Young, of Jlatau, asked that the Council sht.uld take -k'ps to clear cattle oil the Maiau North ami Waitara Valley roads, which had beet'me dumping grounds for stock. Mr L. Hamilton, of Tangiiu, wrote in the same .strain re the latter road, which he 'said the ivamlcring cattle

Mr J. < histcnsen wrote in reference to his reipies,!. for the erection of a blidge on tile Otaraoa road out of old. material from another bridge that none of the neighbors' had the necessary horse power to do the tiaiber carting, and h- lru>t"d that as he had oireved £),-, anil three men"* hil'or for a batnight, the Council wou'd see its way to grant his request.
