A TRENCHANT CRITICISM,

London, July 3. The Christian World deals witli the New Hebrides in an article entitled, "A Crying Scandal.'' After alleging that women and children were openly recruited and kidnapped for immoral purposes,, the article says the administration of justice is a farce, and that the Government is in possession of papers which it dare not pubH-h: b«-au e the bulk of the maladniini|tration is French rather than English, and they are afraid of arousing French public opinion against England. The paper is hopeful that the present conference will remedy matters, but if not, the papers must be published and the consequences faced.

In the House of Commons, Mr. George Lambert, Civil Lord of the Admiralty, fai answer to a question, said he understood that deposits of oil shale had re cent!}' been found in certain islands in the New Hebrides, but no reports had been received respecting boring to test the extent of the field.
