THE WIMBLEDON TOURNAMENT. Received 3, 11.15 p.m. London, July 3. At the Wimbledon tournament to-day the heat was tempered by a cool breeze. Wilding and Brookes are not an ideal pair. Owing to Brookes being a left--hander, a ball to the centre often leaves the couple in doubt as to which should take it with the forehand. Doust attacked this weakness yesterday. Wilding's play was tactically unsound, and often forced Brookes out of position. Dixon and Roper Barrett are expected to attack these weaknesses in the challenge round.

Doust in'the third set was the most brilliant of the four. He poached bravely, bringing off dazzling volleys against Lowe.

Brookes made sixty-five winning strokes and forty-five losing; Wilding fifty winning and thirty-six losing. Gordon Lowe served finely, and scarcely missed a volley, but A. H, Lowe's service was weak.
