(From Our Own Correspondents)
The advertised meeting of settlers ot' the Mangorei, Caarington and l'Yaukley! aoads, for tile purpose of forming anj association, or branch of the Fanners'| l.niou, was yuy well attended, but at! future meetings, when the benolits to be derived fiom such co-operation bj-l come known, the soiiool will be better j tilled, that is, if the fanners are at ad i •. live to their own interests. I Alice some discussion the meeting dc-| cijed to fvTin a Settlers' As ociation in preference to a- branch of the Farmers' t nioii, the former being considered more suitable for 'ln requirements of these., districts. The btisiucsj dealt mo-tly wiili the rooting question and the manner in which |-1« land in the dr-U'icts is valued, also idvainvs to settlers, etc.
Mr. liinnie was elected President, and Mr. Marsh. Secretary for the lirst twelve! month-,'. Meetings are to be held oil the! last Monday m eac'.n month. The membership fee was fixed at half a crown.
After a gocd deal of trouble the Frankley Itoud settlers have decided tu build a cheese factory in place of butter, as heretofore. This should mean a great deal to the district, as clieesc-myjkiui; means at least a penny per lb. extra butter fat, ai'owing for all <ixtra expense in manufacture.

KAIMATA. A meting of the Kaimata branch of the N.Z.i.L was held here on Tuesday evening, and I thought a, few remarks might be useful to the farmers generally and acceptable by you. This branch has been in existence since the Uni.Mi started, and has had an uphill fight, farmers being willing to accept all the benefit-, but declining imcmbcr.shi]>,, notwithstanding the fact that the Fire Insurance has been brought down to more than 'halt', * by the hard labor given freely by those who have had the interests of fanners at heart. The local branch has just managed to keep the Hag ilyiii'.', but ,i, 'h,e.\iUiicr tone i, noticeable, and we hope that when'the Provincial Executive has an organiser at work, many new branches will tie, formed, and old ones become more vigorous. It. does seem strange that, on the face ot the, object lesson shown by industrial unions, in the way of organising and paying heavy levies, the farmers are too slow to band .together lor defensive and mutual assistance whenever a crisis may arise requiring unitv of purpose. The meeting just held was to receive the delegate's report Held at I'atea hi .'ln. Much slag has Jieen liromjlit into this locality during the winter.'and no doubt the milk supplies at the local dairy factory and creamery will yet tile benefit, A party of about forty, organised i v the local branch of the Fanners' Union took a trip to the Moumahaki State farm, and 1. am sure tliev have lcai'nt a less,,,, that they can put to profitable use. The lucerne also showed great results, and, with the inoculation of the soil, should prove of great value lure, as 111,* ujiler is intimate with the Inn.l 111 \l.iiMKihaki. before Ki : e Hove n"lent took it up, and our lauds he.-e should, with similar treatment, return as good or better crops, for I have seen swedes grown here under ordinary conditions that Would average "Gibs apiece, and a dray could be filled without 'moving it - some of them weighed bv the writer weighed !01 lis; so you will see that we can grow roots, 'and lucerne should present no great difficulty.
