Received 2, 8.25 p.m. Melbourne, July 2. It is stated that when arrested Ryan was in possession of- an automatic pistol, loaded in seven chambers. Another man and three women detained as the result of the raid were released after a severe cross-oxamiiiati'hi.

Ryan was to-day formally charged with complicity in the Eveleigh robbery. The police, in asking for a remand, stated that they had expected that when Ryan was sent back to Sydney he would be accompanied by anoticr "wanted'' man, but owing to the indiscreet paragraphs in the papers it appeared that the whole of t!ie police wor.t would prove abortive, anil that Ryan would return alone.

In asking for a substantial bail. Detective Burnett described Ryan as one of the most desperate criminals in Australia.

A remand was granted, bail being fixed at £2OOO.

LOOKING FOR THE LOOT. A FIND IN A FIREPLACE. Received 3, 1.5 a.m. Melbourne, July 2. Detectives exhaustively searched the house where Ryan was arrested. Finally, by pulling down the fir.plaee, th >v found a jar containing B5 one-pound notes.

They arc practically certain that the whole of the proceeds of the Eveleigh hold-up are hidden in Melbourne. The. search continues. Further arrests are anticipated.
