Kirst the Dominion: l'rohably the most snr]irised and disgruntled member of the House ot Representatives at the close of yesterday's sitting was the Leader of the Opposition. He had made careful preparations to spring a want-of-eonlidencc amendment on the Government; he had got together the material for a fierce onslaught on the Ministry; and he threw himself into the conflict with the greatest energy. His speech in support of his amendment was a good party speech. Hut his success was short-lived. The Minister of Finance, who was put up to replv, began quietly and somewhat unimpressively, chiefly because he dealt first with 'minor points raised.
