The Patea Borough Council lias appointed Mr. F. G. Davis engineer. A London cablegram reports the death of Mr Edward Payne, tilfe actor. The death is reported from London of Lord Wemyss at the age of 96 yeaT.t. lie was the tenth Earl, and was created a U.U.ViO. in 1009. He owned about 02,W0 acres. His son, Lord Echo, succeeds 'liini.
Mr. \V. 11. Burnett, managing director of the South Tarantula Shipping Company, lias been offered and the position of manager of the newly-formed Wellington Waterside Employment Association, at a salary of £OOO per annum.—>Bresa.
•Professor Prince, Uie Canadian Commissioner of Fishariea, wto is touring the Dominion, was in New Plymouth yesterday. After conferring witili the executive of tllib Taranaki Acclimatisation Society, and visiting several of the local streams, he left by the midday train for Hawera.
The death occurred last week at Auckland of Mrs. Bagnall, the wife of Mr. L. J. Bagnall, a former Mayor of Auckland. The deceased, who was 7o years of age, arrived with her husband in New Zealand in ISM on th ebig Pakelia, coming to this country from Prince Edward Island, Canada. They passed through the many vicissitudes incidental to the life of the early pioneers, winning for themselves the esteem of all citizens and the friendship of a. large circle of acquaintances. The deceased is survived by her husband and a grown-up family.
