WAITAKA ROAD. (From our own Correspondent.) 1 must thank your Waitara correspondent for reporting in (Saturdays paper Uhe. speech delivered by tUti Mayor of Waitara (.Mr. W. K. Jenkins), at the opening ceremony of the new 11-ui-rangi Hull 011 Thursday last. The weather was not of the 'best, being showery, but the hall was' packed to ■ovorllowing, and a good programme! was presented, as follow'*:—Opening selection, four members' Waitara -Buud; song, school di ild rcn; song, Mr Dick Uiddy; song, Miss Uarice llowe; cornet solo, Mr C. Smith; song, Mr Bert Wells; recitation, Mr. Stanley Tate; song, -Mr. l\ Smith; musical selection, four members Waitara Band; song, M'rs. Thornley; reoitatio/i, Jiiis Hilda Bishop; song, Mr. Day; cornet solo, Mr. C. Bniil.li; dialogue, party from Ti'korangi. At the dose, Alt'. J. 11. Smith moved a hearty vote of thanks to all who 'had assisted to make the evening such a pronounced siuceess, after which tlh,e singing of 'the National Anthem (Jits. Cooper presiding at the piano), brought the concert to a. dose. As usual, Uhe ladies provided a first-chu-B supper. The floor of the 'liai',l was then cleared, and dancing, to the music of Miss Oarr (piano), and Mr. C. Smith (cornet) was indulged in till the ttirly hours of tliie morning. - Mr. Sid Sarten made an efficient MX,'. The amount taken for the evening was £ls 5s fid, "which must be considered good. The iirst euchre party in aid of t.lie hall funds will take 'place slhortlv, and as some exceedingly good prizes hive been donated a record attendance is expected.
