BIG Firms decline to tender.

The question of tenders for the supply of New eZaland timber was considered by the Harbor Board to-day. The secretary reported that only one tender had been received. Ssveral other firms had written to say that they could not tender, but were enclosing their list of prices current. Tlie V-ihairman (Mir Crun.6»n) stated .tltiat the one tendbr receiv-, ed represented the printed l'ist of, the association. The leading firms had refuwd to .tender, and the Board was not •ible to buy to ftdvartfcaga as it had done in the pi.st. He said there were assuredly ind'itationls of a .timber.' riflg. The matter was referred to u eocnmittee, and the engineer was instructed to report upon the position.
