In the House of Commons Mr. Lloyd George announced that instead of cutting out the Finance Bill the Government would incorporate in the Revenue Bill the clauses in the Finance Bill the introduction of which had been sanctioned. The former will embody the new valuation and also grants to local authorities. Jt is expected that the new plan will make it difficult tor the House of Lords to reject the valuation scheme.
| ENGLISH BYE-ELECTION. London, June 39. Mr Thomas Stanford, Unionist, has been elected unopposed for Brighton, vice Hon. W, Gordon, who resigned owing to ill-health.
