It; gratifying to find! that the Minister for Railways has arranged for a special ttaiu to leave Stratford on Wednesday moiniiij; at 10 o'clock for the convenience of those who de3ire to be present at tin opening of the railway to Whangamomona by the Minister *'n that day. Apparently Mr Hemes waa unablo to reply to the request for this train 'before yesterday morning, so that some valuable time was lost, but now that the announcement is madc ; and it u? known that excursion fares will be available, then should be a large awnvisitor* present at the ceremony. ifhe official opening hats been Jixed to take place at the Whangamomona station at 1 p.m., after which there will po a luncheon, which will doubtless be largely attended. Stratford on Satuirday night the first portion of the order given by the Stratford! Acclimatisation (Society for 100,006 brown trout from the famous hatcheries at Ifiikataramea, on the Waitaki riveir. The parcel consisted of 20,000 ova, and it wHI be followed by a further 30,000 in July, the remainder coming forward later. The Society 'has acted in the best interests of fishermen in largeiy inbrcasing the supply of ova tlhis yeaa—th« augmentation being almost threefold, i With a fair o mount of luck, anglers should keenly anticipate excellent aport in future. As the ova come from fish which are taken from a mountain stream the fry should thrive well in the streams found round the Stratford district, which should afford angfcrs a. good time later on.
The Society is to .be congratulated on |ts enterprise, and' on tlio liberal way in which it caters for the subscribers.
