SIR JOSEPH WARD'S WEEK-END. Per Press Association.

Palnierston' N., Last Night. Sir Joseph Ward visited the Post and Telegraph annual re-union, where he was cordially received, and later was present at a railway farewell social to two officers retiring on superannuation. He spoke of the valuable services the Postal Department had rendered to the people of the country. The officers, he said, were serving the public well, and this had been brought about by having received proper recognition. He referred to the reforms which he was instrumental in bringing about as Post-imister-General, also to the value of the Department's official paper. The Department had maintained a, high standard of efficiency. There was nothing that any otiier country possessed that they did not have in the Post and Telegraph Department in New Zealand. He wan particularly proud of the secrecy of the telegraph service. He never knew of a suggestion of leakage of information, except here and there in some betting transaction. He pointed out the possibilities the young men had of working up to become heads of the highest branch in the service. Sir Joseph had a most cordial reception at the railway social.
