N.Z. FARMERS' UNION.
TARANAKI PROVINCIAL EXECUTIVE. The monthly meeting of the Taranaki Executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union was held at Hawera on Thursday, when there were present:—Messrs Dunn (vice-president), in Jflio chair, R. Lambie, E. A. Washer, J. ,S. Barrow, B. B. Booker, J. Swindlehurst :and W. Pennington. An apology of absence was received from Mr Davidson and leave .granted this gentleman, and ,also to all absent members, EDUCATING FACTORY MANAGERS. The Auckland Provincial Executive forwarded the following remit: "That 'the Government erect an up-to-date college to scnool factory' managers in the work of manufacturiag butter and cheese, on similar lines to those in Canada."
Mr Dunn moved: "That the executive is in thorough sympathy with the remit." He said that, he had advocated something of the kind ait a meeting at Kaupokonui. He thought that all factory managers should be properly trained and qualified by examination. A man who had the powyr to condemn their milk should be properly qualified, and the suppliers should be satisfied that lie was.
Mr Lainbie said that factory managers should be certificated, but was not sure whether a special college should be established for that purpose. As to the test, it was known to dairymen that certain cows did not produce good milk. In one herd of 80 cows in the Old Country, there were fifteen wfliose milk was not fit to make a -first-class article, and to all appearances the cows were sound. Mr Washer said that the quad test was adopted in the factory he was connected with, and it proved very satisfactory.
The motion was carried. AGRICULTURAL INSTRUCTION.
Tt was reported that Mr Brown, agricultural instructor, was prepared to give a week's instruction in agriculture to any number of farmers in any one district for the sum oi' £3.

BRANCH AT KAPONGA.
Mr Dunn said he and the secretary had attended a meeting Jit Kaponga for tin; purpose of forming a 'branch tl.ere. The nucleus of a 'branch had liven formed, and*another malting would be held for the purpose of toting officers. GENERAL. The Wellington Wharf Laborers' Union wrote tiovering a long letter which was a reply to the Citizens' Defence Committee, and which had. Tueen sent to the. Ptess, but only partially published. Tin? letter was received osud liejd over for couiiideration.
