MAGISTRATES' COURT.

NEW PLYMOUTH SITTING. Mr. A. Crooke, S.M., presided over a brief sitting of the Magistrate's Court yesterday. • ALLEGED FALSE PRETENCES. George Allen, alias Kneller, was charged by Detective-Sergt. Boddam with having obtained sums amounting to £C from Spencer Bidgeley, of the Terminus Hotel, under false pretences.

Detective Boddam asked for a remand of one week, as accused had only just been arrested. This was granted,' bail not being asKed for, but permission was given for accused to attend a sitting of the Court on Tuesday in connection with a civil case. SEPARATION ORDER.

The adjourned case of Selina Rose Gooch, of New Plymouth, again Thomas Gooch, an application for a separation and maintenance order, witli custody of the children, on the grounds of persistent cruelty, was then called. Benjamin Fox, father of the applicant, gave evidence of various acts of cruelty by defendant to his wife. Witness mentioned occasions on whicli defendant had invaded his home in search of applicant, who had gone there for safety. He also detailed castigations which he said he had administered to defendant on account of his cruelty to his wife. An order was made according to the application. Maintenance was fixed at £1 per week and costs £3 3s allowed. Fourteen days were given in which to pay the costs.

INGLEWOOD SITTING. Mr..Kenrick, S.M.. presided over a sitting of the Magistrate's Court on Thursday. USING BAD LANGUAGE. Eric Norman Bellringer and Walter Kendall were convicted of having used bad language on the train between Lcpperton Junction and Inglewood. Bellringer was lined £3 and costs Js. and Kendall was fined £3, with costs lis and witnesses' expenses 17s 6d. ALLEGED BREAKING AND ENTERING.

John Todd was arrested by Constable Fitzgibbon yesterday on a charge of breaking and entering a house on the Norfolk road. He was remanded by Mr. W. E. Porcival, J.P., for one week. Bail was not granted.
