Mrs Douglas, Mra I'.. Swinburne, .Mrs H. Steele, and .Mss <;. i,oug-las (Auckland) have been ma visit to New Plymouth in connection Willi the wedding of Mr W. G. Douglas. Mrs Uniacke. Straiford, ia the guest of Mrs duuda Weston. Mrs J. Avery entertained a number of friends at bridge last Tuesday aftern on, which resulted in Mrs G. Kobbell winning the first prize and Mrs Medley second. Mrs Claude Wesio.. was hostess to a (small bridge evening List Wednesday, the guest of the evening being Mrs Uniacke (.Stratford.) Miss Alexander (Auckland) is on a visit to New Plymouth. Mrs and Mrs J. Clarke (.Wellington) are paying New Plymouth a visit.
Mrs Lewis Webster, Stratford, is the guest of her mother, Mrs J. Avery. Bridge—Last Tuesday Miss Wade gave a most enjoyable bridge party a l * a farewell to Miss Cottrell, who is leaving 'shortly for Wellington, and the prize, which was a hidden number was won by Miss Cottrell. Amongst those present were: Mrs Sladden, Mrs O'.aude Weston and Mis F. Wili-;on, Misses Humphries (2), iillis, G. Shaw, S. Thomson, Cottrell, Mrs Addenbrooke, Misses Crooke, Ecad, Testar, McKellar, Blundell. Afternoon Tea—As a farewell to Gottrall, Mrs Crooke gave a very enjoyable afternoon tea last Wednesday, The floraf decorations were lovelv, consisting of masses of violets and autumn leaves'. The competition prizes were presented to Miss Ellis and Miss Douglas. During the afternoon, pianoforte and vocal items were given by Misses Crooke (2), Wade anj Douglas. Amongst those present were: Mr.i Crooke, in a very , pretty heliotrope silk voile'over a white silk foundation bodice deftly lightened with cream h.ce. Miss Crooke, reseda green cashmere de soie, with frills of cream liuic on neck and sleeves. Miss W. Crooke, pretty French grey charineuse with tenliv of cerise colored satin. Miss Iris Crooke, dainty Nhell pink voile, over •.'. .-ilk foundation. Miss Cottrell, a blue coat and skirt, smart black hat. Mrs Claude Weston, black moire <oat and skirt, black hat with osprey. Mrs Wylie, navy costume sabJe furs, white velouV hat. Miss Wade saxe blue co?tivme, hat to correspond. Miss ISltis, a navv coat ana skirt, fo* furs, black hat, with feather nichj. Mrs H. ORANGE BLOSSOMS. TERRY—DOUGLAS. A very pretty but quiet wedding was 1 solemnised in St. Mary's Church on Thursday, when Miss Freda M. Perrv, only daughter of 'Mr. and Mrs. W. JI. fPerry, of New Plymonth. was united in the holy bonds of matrimony, to Mr. William <i. Douglas, only son of the late \Mr. \V. S. Douglas, of Auckland. The 'bride, who was given away by her .father, looked winsome in a dainty robe of white Flemish lace, trimmed' with tiny seed pearls, with a draped corsage and finished with a wide satin folded 'belt. Over a chaplet of orange blosj soms fell an embroidered tulle veil, and she tarried an exquisite shower bouquet. She was attended by two bridesmaids, -Miss O. Douglas (sister of the bridegroom) and Miss Alice Hcaly (Stratford), who wore charming frocks of white lace, over a silk foundation, the skirts forming in three-tier effect, finished with wide belts of purple satin; and dainty white lace mob caps, deftly trimmed with purple ribbon. They carried lovely bouquets of violets, finished with ribbon bows. The bridegroom's gifts to the bridesmaids were pearl ear-rings. Rev. A. 11. Colvile officiated, while Mr. .T. F. Anderson acted as best man, and •Mr. X. Perry as groomsman. After •the ceremony, the bridal party drove ■to the. bride's parents' residence, where •the wedding breakfast was held. Amongst those present were: Mrs. Perry, who wore a navy blue costume, faced with floral silk, black hat, with saxe blue lancer plume; Mrs. Sholto Douglas, I .who wore a handsome robe of black corded silk, long black seal coat, black .feathered toque, and carrying a violet bouquet; Mrs. H. Steele, black ninon, ■over cream lace, with violet satin belt, black bat "with white feathers; Mrs. E. •Swinburne, grey silk poplin, 'black hat, nvith white ospreys, black furs; Miss Mynott, nattier-blue costume, blue feathered hat; Miss S. Thomson, navy blue costume, Wack feathered hat; Mrs. Hurley, black and white costume, hat to correspond; Miss Emery, dainty cream law robe, with brown satin belt, brown hat en suite.
The happy couple left during the afternoon by motor en route to AYanganui and Napier, where their honeymoon is (to be spent, the bride's travelling dress being a smart nattier-blue costume, with bat to correspond, and black fox furs.
STANLEY-HAYDFA. A very pretty wedding tool; phu-v in St. Mary's Clnireli on Thursday, when .Miss Alice Maude Hayden, eldest daughter of Mr and ill's ".Toseph [layden, of JTew Plymouth, and late of 'London, was married to Mr William Cyril Mtanley, of Hillsborough: The bride wore a white silk dress, trimmed with insertion and lace and pearl triin.mings. .She wore the usual wreath of orange Ifio-soms and veil, and carried a shower bouquet of white irises, phlox, narcissi and maiden hair fern. Her sister, Miss M. 'Hayden, was bridesmaid, and wore a dress of pale pink San Toy, trimmed with pure lace and insertions, and a Mack vclour Jiat trimmed with fur and pink ninon. Slie carlied a shower bouquet of pink flowers and asparagn* fern. Two little nieces of tiio bridegroom, the Misses? Comey, ivere also 'n attendance. TJlrcy wore
pale blue San Toy dresses trimmed with Maltese lace, and mob caps, and carried baskets of heath and camelias and asparagus fern. The Rev A. 11. Colviuar of St. .officiated. Mr Ernest Stanley, 'brother of the bridegroom, was best man, and Mr Ernest Locke groomsman. The large number of useful and costly present* received testified to the esteem in which the parties are 'held. The bridegroom's present to the bride was a gold broocli, to the bridesmaid a pendant and cliain, and to the little maids greenstone pendants. After the ceremony a wedding breakfast was held at May and Arrows mi th's rooms, where the usual toasts were honored. The happy couple left by the 4.20 train for Hawera, en route to Wanganui, whore the honeymoon is to be spent. The Ibride's going-away drtss was a tweed costume, with black velour hat trimmed with tangerine.
