CASE IN DUNEDIN POLICE. COURT.
Dunedin, June 25.
At the Police Coiurt this morning,
£eo, or Arthur, Boranoff, alias Arnold alias Albert Bernstein, appeared in the dock charged with being ''';' an idls and disorderly person, having ••insufficient lawful means of support. - 'lie pleaded rot guilty, For the prosecution, it was stated that accused came (here about six weeks •go, alleging he was of the Jewish persuasion and was a doctor. He applied to the Jewish Philanthropic Society and' the Rabbi for assistance, which was given. He then asked the society to send him to Queensland, and the soci-' ety paid his passage, gave .him a sovereign fox his pocket, and deposited £4 with the poixaer of t/lie Reamer *to give ihim in (Sydney. He Ceft the boat at Lvttelton anil, returned to Dunedin. At iLyttetton he showed the purser a telegram purporting to come from the Ral>bi directing the purser to hand over the £4 and the ticket, whidli the purser did. Accused, before leaving DunedSn, told a boardinghouse-keeper that he did not intend going beyond Lyttelto.:. The magistrate said he would llk«' to liear the evidence of the medical superintendent of the hospital, of Which accused was recently a patient, and remanded the case till Saturday next.
