These; two - teams met on Western Park in one of the fastest matches, which has been played in the competition this season. The play was willing, and mostly confined to forward work, with spasmodic efforts from the back division. All the scoring was done in the fliv.t spell. After even play, Western kicked a penalty goal, to which Clifton replied with a try from the ruck, which -\\us nol converted. Offside play later gave Western another otance, and he notched the winning points with a good kic£ The second spoil consisted of fast play up and down the Seld. A Olifton man crossed the line, but the ball was not downed. The visiting forwards played we'll, and pur, in one particularly ■fine rush, which carried play from their own twenty-five .right to 'their opponents-' goal. W.liaka was a tower of strength at full back. The Tukapa vanguard also played well. The hack .division, with the exception of L. Whitaker, who played « sterling game at five-eighths, was not <ip to form, even allowing for the pi-easiness of the 'ball. Spurdle, of the Clifton tenni, was put off the field on a charge of questioning the referee's decision. Mr. O. West refereed.

lUOH SCHOOL 2ft V. STAR S. This match, which was played on the racecourse. wa», as the score indicates, mcnily a runaway victory for the school team, which outclassed its opponents in every department. Mr, W. Roch rc-fi-rcud.

STRATFORD H v. INGLEWOOD 0. This match, ivhirilu took place on the Inglewood grounds, resulted in a vie-

Tory for Stratford by 14 points to nil. The weather was fine, and the ground in good oriljr. Half of the Tnglcwo-;d team failed to roll up, and a number vi substitutes had to be obtained. These included, three schoolboys, who, to give them credit, played up well, and 'went lor tliieir men like veterans. Inglewood forwards easily hold their own, but their backs were no match for Stratford back?. From the kick-oil .Stratford became, aggressive, and ruslio.l piay to Inglewood's twenty-five, where, a serum took place. Fred" Nit-holla secured and put in a good kick, tjhe ball going out at half way. Stratford came on again,.and for some time had Inglewood in difficulties, but eventually Ing-e----wood forwards broke away, and carried the ball right up to Stratford's lino, where from a scrum the ball was rushed over the line, and Stratford farced. Stratford rallied ,again, and from a free, Collins lr.nded a good goal. Inglewood now woke up, and a good kick liy F. Nicholls put Stratford's line in danger. Bisliell marked and Raynor made a good attempt at goal, the' ball just niisning the uprights. The spell ended: Stratl'on! 3, Inglewood nil. From- the kick-off, Stratford rushed the ball up and soon had Inglewood in trouble. .From a kick by Raynor, Rogers secured .and, beating the Inglewood backs, scored. The kick sit goal failed: Stratford 0, Inglewood nil. Stratford came on again, but Fred Nicholls relieved witto a good kick. From the line-out the ball was .sent to' Dickio, who put in a great run, being pushed out meal- the iine. Stratford came again, and Inglewood forced. Good following up by Stratford scon had Inglewood thinking, and, Jones socuring, dashed in and scored an easy try. Collins goaled: 11 to nil. From a line out, Rogers secured and, scored another try, the kick at goal going .wide. The game ended: Stratford 14, Inglewood nil.

SECOND JUNIORS.

CLIFTON 23 V. STRATFORO 0.

ThisL. match, which was plavcd at Waita"iji I ,.naAu . u , unquestioned victory for tjfeTranie team by a margin of 20 points. From an early line out at ■half \vny, Clifton-attacked both- and an infringement pwe 'MeKoy a free kick, with which he made no mistake. Clifton 3, Stratford 0. Stratford then took a hand m attaik but could not score. Clifton forced and play rctwiied to Stratford's 25, whore little advantage was gained by either till 8. Tate eroVsed the line. Clifton fi. Stratford 0. iClifton attacked again and O. Soll'e scored and the spell ended: Clifton 0, St in I ford. 0. The first try in the second luif.f was by Proctor from a forward rush, A Fuller converting, 'and soon afterwards .Matine scored' again for the .home team. Stratford played well on defence hut Clifton was too strong and the fame ended with another three poinU added *>>" G. Soffe after a forward rush. Mr F. Roberts controlled the game.

STRATFORD D.H.S. 25 v. STAR 0. This match, which was plavcd at Stratford yesterday, provided very good practice for the school team, which outclassed the visitors in every department except that of punting. The score does not indicate the relative merits of the teams, as the school not only narrowly missed scoring several times, but only converted two tries out of seven, all of which were comparatively easy. Coutts scored three tries and converted two; Morton scored two tries and Stunners one. The passing of the winners was very creditable, though capable of improvement, and their tendency to infringements should be overcome. They have the makings of a first-class team. Stars were four men short, so that may account for some of their misfortune, tout the team was weak, uncertain, and devoid of dash, the collaring being far too high. Mr. Jackson ablv controlled the game in the right spirit. *
