STATE BANKING.
To the Editor,— . Sir,—l read your article on State banking with much pleasure. I consider it very much to the point. Some years ago .Mi- Hogg, .member for Ma*terton, brought down a bill for a State Bank but Sir Joseph .Ward threw it out. Another good measure brought down bv the same member to take the dutv off wheat and hour was bumped out by Sir Joseph Ward, and incidentally, Mr Hogg was bumped out of the Ministry. I have never heen able to understand why Sit Joseph Ward threw out the latter measure, unless it was in the interests ot the Fiotu- Millers' Association.—l cm etc., ' PROGRESS.
