AN INTERESTING EXHIBIT. Tlie Hawera Acclimatisation Society lias a very interesting exhibit, and one. that practically illustrates _ the good ■wort the society is doing in stocking the rivers ci South Taranaki. , A placard shows that (half a million trout are annually placed in the various rivers, and some line trout are exhibited —weighing up to 121b—tat have been lifted from the rivers. Tlic exhibit ah-o slices the process of hatching ova just taken, ova 30 days old, and nine months old trout being exhibited in running water.
J SCHOOLS DISTRICT JiXHIBITION. Six entries ili'ave been received for the grand display of farm iprodu.ee open to residents of any school! district, the prizes to-be devoted to the school library or prize fund. Very fine exhibits t'hey are, to'o„ occupying the wlliole of one lido Of the dairy produce hall. One exhibit comprised no lessi than 488 different articles, including grain, woods, hedge' plants, herbs, -t'oeds, roots, vegetables, fruit, butter, meat and farm and » gaiidcn produce of all d; tllie whole being neatly labelled and a tabuJ lated Hst attached. This was not tVI prize winner. The exhibits attracted I general adjniration. They are an cvi- | dence of the prod-uctivity of itihe district ] and a tribute to the enthusiasm of it's j residents, school teachers and commit- [ tees.
Points were awarded a® follow: All exhibits TO, arrangement or other special point deserving recognition, 30. Points to be given for quality rather than quantity. SCHOOL GARDEN COMPETITIONS. Six schools lhave entered for the -school garden competitions, which are judged at the school, the result being as follows:—Tokaora school, 165y 2 points, 1; Okaiawa school, 159, 2; Eraser road school, 133 y z , 3.
TRADE DISPLAYS. NEW ZEALANDIA MILKING MACHINE. The Taranaki Farmers' Co-operative Society is showing for the first time the New Zealamjia milking machine, wlhich possesses several outstanding features, it has a. claw pulsator with alternate motion, releasing two teats, whilst the other two are being squeezed, therclby reducing the danger of falling 'off to a minimum. The pulsation, too, is brought to within' four inches of the cows' toa-ts, which is a very important feature. It can be supplied eitlher with buckets or releaser. The releaser is simplicity itso'.f, combined with strength, the aim of the manufacturers. .. The vacuum tank consists of an ordinary machine -bucket, which can he taken down and cleaned in a few ■moments, ■u important sanitary feature. Already

At root is to be found the struggle towards perfection and mastery of detail. How greatly the dairying industry is indebted for its success to the mechanical equipments is well known, and it is to a firm like that of McMillan and Fredric who are making butter and cheese look to for supplies of the latest and most approved' appliances. A glance at this firm's display reveals how thoroughly they are keeping abreast—one might almost say in advance of the requirements of the day. They are exhibiting iShnu cream scales for weighing home separated cream; also butter and milk teaks, aJI of the latest type. There is a tine sample of -,h.; Sinus regenerator, which has b(*ji specially imported to cnab!<. Cheese factoni.s to economic-ally pasteurise whole mil'k, and among a host of otiher dairying appliances arc to be seen Westphalia separator!*, aluminium skimmers, starters, etc., besides 1 the latest design of factory pumps. Another i'-iatford firm! that is fo t'.is foro in trade exhibits is tflilat of Alessvs Masters anil Son, whose exhibit of Waipa coal and Golden Bay cement occupies a prominent position at the show. A huge block of coal occupies the central place surrounded by a number of samples of the coal in various sizes suitable for different purpose's. This popular coal is suitable for either the household 01 for steam .raising. That it is a success in the latter capacity is proved by a recent ord«r for fifty tons received a factory that tried a track load Mid found rt answer admirably. At the dead end of the avenue, where iire shown the fnuii and vegetable cQasses, there io to be -seen, tier upon tier of ferns, Ledge plants, shrubs, and a variety of ivrsery stock exhibited by Mr R. MeK. Ivlorison, 'of Stratford, who is one of tlu leading authorities on. ] tents and planting. The exhibit gives ?.ieplc testimony to the expert care and attention given, and to the benefieiil effect of Stratford >.yii and climate.
The Mo'orshead Nurseries (New Plymouth) lli'avo a splendid cxliimt of wellgrown palms, ferns, foliage, and other plant-, ornamental and (lowering shrubs, native and other trees and plants. There is also a cilioice ansurlincr.t of flowering -heatli-s and daphnes-. The display is a -most .attractive one. ami does great credit to this well-known nursery.
A HANDY MOTOn-C-Ai;. One of -the exhibits that attracted great attention is the .Unrris-Oxford •>■ seater motor-car, yitown by .Mr Donald, of the Stratford Motor Oarage. 11 is a HJh.p. machine, capable of "doing iiO -miles an hour up bill on a gallon of petrol—equal to a. penny a mile, but its most striking feature is the absence of vibration and sound. It has. a natty and -businesst-like appearance, and in relation to the large cars may Ibe compared with what a torpedo is to a Dreadnought.
