ALLEGED DEFECTIVE BRAKE,

Greymouth, June 24.

The question concerning the adequacy or inadequacy of a band brake as used at the Scotia nine, Morrjigs', near Reefton, occupied the attention of the Supreme Court at Greymouth yesterday, afternoon and again this mornug. Mr. Lary » appearing on | behalf of appellant and Mr. M. Hanan !on behalf of respondents. A great deal I of expert evidence wwa heard and his Honor reserved his decision.

CHARGES OF EMBEZZLEMENT

(Wellington, June 20.

•Horace Oramond, formerly manager for Thomffs Ojok and Sons, jwafc charged at, the Magistrate's Court with embezzling £1435 between February 15 ami May 13. The pclice said What when the defalcations were suspected, Cramond was suspended, and while the investigation was proceeding he absconded to Sidney. Substantial bail was thereforeasked for. Counsel for the defence denied that Cramond absconded and said he would make a Statement at the prober time. A remand was granted to July 3, bail in self of £SOO and two sureties of tloO each.
