Mr T. F. Tillboys, engineer to tlie Wangamii tramways, was in New Plymouth yesterday. Mr M. Franklin, an old resident of Manaia, is taking up his residence in Auckland.
News has been received in Wellington of the death of Captain Robert Annit, whose name will bo remembered by many in the seafaring line. Mr W. F. M. Buckley has been appointed a member of the Board of Agriculture in the place of the late Mr D. D. Macf&rliane.
At the Lower Butt on Wednesday a presentation of a roller-top desk was made to Mr D. M. Yeats, late headmaster of the 'local District High School. Very sincere and deep regret was expressed yesterday in Christclrarch business circles, and amongst membeib of the Scottish Society, when the news of the death of Mr James McKintosfo, on *overal occasions Chief of the Scottish Society, became known. Mr McKintosh had been ill for a long time, but even up to the last hopes were entertained for his recovery.—Press telegram.
