RELICS OF PAST RACE.
DISCOVERY AT NUKUALOFA BONIS OF'GREAf SIZE.
Nukualofa, June '2.
Workmen engaged in quarrying rock for the new reads in Nukualofa recently unearthed a number of human bones of enormous size. The find is silent testi- | inon.v of ei'.'he.r race deterioration ill the Tongans, or that some other people I criminally occupied these islands. Sonic I complete skulls, pelvis and forearm bones were half as large again as these portions of the average Tongan of today, and in life could not possibly have belonged to human beings under "ft. in j height. The trilthon at Nologa, the mys tor ions pile of stones, the origin of which can only be guessed, seems to be more in keeping with. f. physically powerful race of people than with the present generation of inhabit?i'ts. The finding of these skeletons and t.e standing testimony of the huge monuments .seems to favor the conclusion that other people in the dim past held swiy in the Friendlics.
