INFORMAL MEDIATION CONTINUES.

INCREASED HOPE OF SETTLEMENT.

The Government is pleased with the announcement from Niagara Falls. The United States has extended an invitation to the representatives of the Mexican Constitutionalists to meet the American and Huertan delegates in an informal discussion of peace proposals. This development is declared as an assurance that the mediation will be prolonged for some time, with an increased hope of an- ultimate agreement being reached upon the provisional Government of Mexico to succeed the Huertan regime.

VILLA STILL SEEKING HUERTA. WILL FIGHT HIS WAY INTO MEXICO.

Villa is determined on a complete and absolute defeat of Huerta and to fight his way into Mexico City irrespective of any action Carranza may take.

Replying to the notes of the mediators, General Carranza has reiterated his willingness to participate in conferences. While thanking the mediators, Carranza made it plain that among the subjects it was impossible to discuss was the proposed armistice, the military movements of Constitutionalists, the agrarian question and the designation of the provisional president of Mexico. He states that he believed he was only complying with his duty to the Constitutionalists when he declared that a grave error had been committed in attempting to solve Fuch a question, which was of transcendental importance to the people of Mexico.
