MEXICAN AFFAIRS.
A MORE HOPEFUL OUTLOOK. By Cable —Press Association—Copyright Washington, June 21.
The President lias announced that the prospect of mediation is still hopeful.
Mr. Bryan declared that Carranza was willing to accept the provisional Government that would supervise the Constitutionalist elections. Mr. Bryan in dicated that the United States now only insisted that the provisional Government shall be dominated by recognised representatives of the reform element. Mr. Bryan's statement took the public by surprise, as it was generally expected that the existing deadlock was impossible to overcome.
The Niagara Falls mediation officials arc unable to verify the latest report as to a breach between Villa and Carranza. The delegates think that the report is probably exaggerated with a view to Carranza's agreeing to accept the provisional Government with the above proviso.
