THE SHAW MUDDLE.
CLIENTS MAKE SECOND LOSSES.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Timaru, Last Night. Judge Sim has delivered judgment in two civil cases heard a few davs ago, arising out of the muddle made i>y Shaw, solicitor. In one case, a defendant refused to pay the plaintiff for a house unless given credit for £ MO paid to Shaw. Tiie Judge found that the £l4O had not been paid in terms of the contract, and the defendant was not entitled to credit. Judgment was given for plaintiff, with interest from December, 1912.
In the second case, plaintiff claimed the release of a mortgage of £3OO, which ho had paid to Shaw. The Judge found Shaw had received the money, but in neglect of the mortgagee's rights the mortgage died in the defendant's possession, and he was never asked to discharge it, or told that the principal had been paid. Judgment was for the mortgagees, with costs to follow in each case.
