Eight thousand spectators were present. Vardon 73, Taylor and Braid 74, led in the first'round. Ouimet took 86. His driving was poor, and foe got into bunker after bunker. Other leading scores were: Tom Williamson and Oktnden 75, Abe Mitchell 76, Duncan and Massy 77.

The golf leaders in the =eeond round ate: Vardon 150, Okenden 151, Taylor I*3, Ouimet 165.
