MARKETING SCHEME.
INTEIiNAL DETAILS OF THE COMPANT. (From Our Special Reporter.) Palmerston North, June IS. The big meeting of delegates having definitely affirmed the principle of cooperative marketing and appointment of a London Board, the report of the committee was taken seriatim, and the lirst three clauses re the appointment of a New Zealand Board of management and the London Hoard, wei'e passed without any discussion.
The question of voting power raised a bono of contention. Mr O'Hara suggested that it should be on the democratic principle of one factory, one vote. This was not seconded. Mr Paeoy moved that the maximum be increased'from fiw votes to twenty, giving factories an additional vote for every 501) tons of butter over the first 500. This was seconded by Mr Marr, and carried. Further amendments, that the maximum be ten votes, and fifteen votes, were both lost. The constitution of the Board also proved a stumbling block, the opinion being expressed that Taranaki should liave equal representation with Auckland, owing to Taranaki exporting more produce at present. ft was pointed out that room was allowed for the more rapid expansion of the Auckland province. The clause passed unaltered.
Tlii; clause r« London Board was altered to read that it shall not consist of more than five members. The contribution was also arranged on the ralne of the produce exported to <!reat Britain through the Association, irrespective of whether the companies consign or sell their produce. The remaining clauses passed unaltered. Further chaises were added to the effect that only co-operative and proprietary dairy factory companies and co-operative ihacon companies be allowed to be become slu«eholders of the company; that the company refrain from trading and other forms of profit making, save as already provided for. The majority report as amended was then adopted, and a committee consisting of Messrs A. Morton, J. B. Corrigan. YV. 1). Powdrell, J. .'.'. Man- and ,11. Forsyth was appointed to submit the amended report to the companies and to act upon, receipt of the replies.
A vote of thanks was accorded the chairman for presiding, and the meeting, which had sat discussing the matter from !).:](! a.m. to Ii.SO p.m. have for an adjournment for lunch, then dispersed. It speaks well for the interest displayed in this important question that the discussion was closely followed throughout the day. very few leaving prior to the conclusion of the meeting. lion. Mr. Massoy. I'remier, and Minister of Agriculture, paid a visit to the meeting, and received a very hearty and spontaneous welcome.
