HARBOR BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. At the monthly meeting of the New Plymouth Harbor Board yesterday there were present: Messrs. J. B. Connctt (chairman), E. Maxwell, C. E. Bellringer, N. King, J. Marx, E. Dockrill, and D. J. Hughes. Art apology was received from Mr. 0. A. Wilkinson.

Leave of absence was granted to Mr. J. McCluggage. 'HARBORMASTER'S REPORT. The Harbormaster (Capt. Waller) reported for the month 28 entrances and 28 clearances, steamships aggregating 34,113 tons. The imports amounted to 12,307 tons, 1385 tons being coal, of which 043 tons were for private use and 442 tons for the Railway Department. The exports amounted to 1045 tons, making a total of 13,412 handled. The harbor was sounded on 16th and 17th inst., and the results showed a satisfactory deepening of the new cut since the last sounding. A plan of the sounding was enclosed. REPORT ON WORKS.

Tlie superintendent of works (Mr. P. Henderson), reported that the dredge 'Paritutu worked with the buckets at the first cut on 25 days, the net time being 203 hours, 03 loads, equal to 25,200 tons being removed, and the cut ha 4 been brought in a further distance of 280 feet, making a total length of 450 feet inshore from the end of the wharf, the depth being 20 feet throughout. Four days were lost through wet weather and one in coaling. No sand pumping was done. The Tliomas King resumed work on May 23, and had since dredged on 14 days between the wharf and the breakwater, having removed 47 loads, equal to ,3760 tons, and was engaged for 3 days in relaying moorings and lifting boulders. The line to Mikolahi had Ibeen relaid with new sleepers, the- site of the old sheds had been cleared of scrap iron and debris, and the crane road had been extended 50 feet farther up the yard. Repairs were being effected to the wharf chafing pieces and walings.

CHAIRMAN'S HONORARIUM. The chairman's honorarium was fixed at £l5O for the current year.
