FOOTBALL.

RESULTS AT A GLANCE. FIRST JUNIOR. Tukapa 12 v. High School 5. Stratford 13 v. Clifton. 0. SECOND JUNIORS. Stratford 12 v. Star 0. Clifton 0 v. Stratford D.H.S. 3. BAD WEATHER CONDITIONS.

The second round 1 of the first and -=iecond junior matches was commenced yesterday in abominable weather conditions, The standard of play was therefore not extraordinavly high.

FIRST JUNIOR.

TUKAPA v. HIGH SCHOOL.

This match, which was played on the Western Park in a driving rain, was unusually fast for so wet a day. The tHgh. School team made an excellent showing, and were it not for the fact that weight, all else being reasonably ■'dial will eventually tell, the result might have 'ibeon different. As| it was, Tukapa won by 7 points. The school team's chief advantage lay in its fitness. The pack was always on the- ball, while Bmice, at five-eighths, and Sykes, in the back division, showed up well. The. Tukapa team was a very even lot, and in the second <spell gave the School a taste of its mettle, and .piled up points in the last twenty in a manner which put the, issue beyond doubt. The first spell ended with'the School onlv one point behind. Grant and Stohr had scored once each for Tukapa. when Sykes, with v. fine sprint from his l own ■25, scored a trv winch was converted. Tn the second spell, however, the School team, though it battled well, could not cross the Tukapa line, and two more tries were scored against them. I'fr Pe'ttv refcrejd.

STAR v. INGLEWOOD.

The match between these two teams, which was to have been played at Inglewood, was postponed on account of the weather. The Star team travelled to Tnglewood, but it was found impossible o play.

STRATFORD 13 v. CLIFTON 3. This match was played at Stratford yesterday in drenching rain and a bitter wind, so that it was no criterion of the. respective merits of the teams. Clifton were handicapped by having only eight of the players originally selected, but the substitutes, with one or two exceptions, did good work. During the first spell the visitors put in some vigorous play, their footwork being remarkably good, but in the last half of the game the. team were hotly pressed by Stratford nearly all the time. 'Stratford kicked off and followed well, a force resulting. A penalty gave Clifton a chance, but Waka failed, though his "effort was a very creditahle one. The game was with the forwards, and Clifton sent the ball down well, Wickbam getting the best of a close race over the line and scoring, the attempt to convert failing. Olifton kept Stratford busy for the remainder of the spell, but the defence was too good, and no further score resulted.

Owing to the atrocious weather, no interval was taken. Stratford at once assumed the offensive and Clifton were forced several times. Collins liad a shot at goal from a penalty against Glifton, but failed. I'rom a'throw-in, Stratford secured and KiveTl scored, Collins adding the major points. Very soon after Russ scored, but the attempt at goal failed. A series of scrums near Clifton's goal-line resulted in Rogers getting over, Collins converting. When play ceased the score was: Stratford 13, Clifton nil.
