MILITARY EXAMINATIONS.

FOR PROMOTION OF N.C.O.'S. The second examination for non-com-missioned officers of the Territorial Forces and .'■'enior Cadets, who are seeking commissions in the Territorial Forces, will be held unroughout New Zealand, at the headquarters of eavh district on Tuesday, July 14. The examination >v is heiu for the first time in September last year, tat in future it is to be held every year on the second Tuesday in July. Last year there were about ICO entries, but the results disclosed by the examinations were disappointing. This year much better reresults are hoped lor, and (it is stated) are likely to be gained. The entries are as follow: Auckland CO, Wellington 38, Canterbury 6G, Otago 61; total, 22.-). Speaking to a Wellington reporter the Chief of the General Staff (Colonel E. g Heard) said that the entries wt;-.. encouraging, and it was hoped that a sufficient number would pass to relieve the shortage jf Territorial officers which existed. Colonel Heard explained that the papers would be set on the .same lines as those of last year. Candidates then had nothing to guide them in their work, but tihis year they had the very comprehensive rerort issued by the examiners who conducted the first examinations.
