Wellington, Last Night. The match .between the "B" team? of the North and South Islandsi created a great deal of interest to-day. There was an attendance at the Athletic Park of upwards cf 3000 .people. It waa generally agreed ttiat the teams were evenly matched, but the result was not unexpected. A feature of the contest >as the 'Va.Vir.ing up" of the Southerners. During the early part of the game they seemed to Jack combination, but the forwards were a fine, fast lot, and ihe whole team improved as the match progressed; in fact, in the 'second halt* the Southerners' line was rarely in danger. Nunn, as Ihalf-hack for the North Island team, and Cockroft. three-quar-ter for the South, played sterling games, and on several occasions showed brilliant football. The game ended in favor of to 8.

In the am spell, Ryan got a tn which McKenzie converted, and McKer zie got a goal from a mark by Kitnr the spell ending North 8, South' nil. I the second half, South woke up, Hasell, Cockro?t and Green scored trie Cockroft converting two.

INTER-COLLEGIATE MATCHES.'

Palmerston North, Last Night. There was ideal weather for the football match between Tc Aute v. Wangunui. Tlie junior game was won by Wanganui by 22 to 0. The winners' forwards were heavy. These teams lacked general knowledge. T><ie senior game was well contested, particularly in the forward work, though there w«is an. occasional hack display. Wanganui scored a converted try and a penalty goal, Tc Aute a trv.

BRITISH TEAM MAKES A SCORE.

Brisibane, June 17. English defeated Ipswich by 45 poini to B.'

The match was played on the slhpw grounds before an attendance of- 4000. A bitterly cold westerly was blowing. The first' ha!f was very streunous, the combination of both sides being splendid, and thft tackling deadly. The Ipswich forwards lisid their own against the English pack, but the backs were outclassed. The scores at lialf time were: England 14; Ipswich 5. In the second half England completely outclassed Ipswich, and scored whenever they liked. England's big score was the result of magnificent passing rushes among the backs. For England Francis scored five tries, Moorhouso 3, Wagstaff 2, and Jofhnsone 1. Wagstatf converted four, and Jo'hnsonc and Jannan one each. For Ipswich, Jeffrey and Beavis scored tries, and Wackcr converted one.

A long article entitled "How to boat tlie New Zealand Rugby team," written for the Telegraph, says:— "There are no Seelings or Caraons and no Paulings with the team that is coming, but there will be some who will do their best to emulate these heroes. The points to rumcmfber are that the New South Wales and Queensland . vanguard must make up their minds to a dashing, tearing, run-away game, and that they are going to be in at the death. If this is done the men will have the condition to outlast the game. The New Zealand phalanx with all its glories, may be outshone by the Australian forward renaissance."
