HOSPITAL BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING. At ti'c monthly meeting of the Taranaki Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, yesterday, there were present:—Messrs F. C. I. Rellringer (chairman) G. W. Brown.-, it Maxwell, 11. J. Mac-Reynolds, D. McAllum. J. R. Hill, G. 11. McDonald, C. V. Tate and Mrs Dockrill. INSPECTOR'S REPORT. The 11. uith Inspector (Mr T. G. Fielder) reported that during the period May P-1 to .I.mw. id, inclusive, he had visited Waitara, Inglewood, Waiongona, Tikorangi, and liell Block. Three cases or i.infection; diseases had been notified, ] one of tuberculosis at Fitzroyt, one of ( hydatids at New Plymouth, and one ot ■.enteric fever at Bell Block. The patient, who was suffering from hydatids i was treated in New Plymouth, but resided outside, the district. Nine disinfections had been performed in five houses, one of the disinfections was ot a nurse's effects, the nurse, having at-, tended the case of an infectious disease outside the district. A quantity of currants had .been destroyed under the provisions of the "Sale of Food and i Drugs Act." Samples of milk and ot I bread had been taken .under the "Sale of , Food and Drugs Act."
HOSPITAL REPORT. ' The medical superintendent -of tho hospital (Or E. A. Walker) reported for the month 40 admissions, 3!) discharges, 5 deaths, and <K> patients now in the institution. The highest number in residence for the month was 55. OLD PEOPLE'S HOME.
The matron of the Old People's Home (Mrs Bayly) reported two admissions, and at present remaining in the 'Home 25 males and C> females. Discipline had been excellent. NEW HOSPITAL.
Mr A. 11. Kendall, clerk of works at the now hospjtal building, reported that the following portions of tho new building were now ready for the tiler: Laundry, ward No. I, padded room, linen and mending room, and other portions \ot the building on the South side of the corridor as far east as the heating chamber. Work was proceeding and was well under way with ward No. 2, and the children's ward, both of which were almost up to roof level. The main drains were laid as far as the padded room. NATIVE NURSE'S REPORT.
Nurse Muir, native nurse at Opunake, reported that during the month she had attended i\\v. cases. There had been .one death and no births. There was no case of epidemic. She had given three lectures at her cottage. She had viait/v.i the pahs at Parihaka, Waitaka and Patiko and found them free from epii demies and with no acute cases of sick- . ness. She had advised a number of j mothers as to dieting sickly children. I The reports were adopted. ) ACCOUNTS.
Accounts amounting to £783 lis 7d were passed for payment.
