At the Rajlwaymen's Conference, a resolution was passed in favor of an cightliour day for all classes, in consequence of speeding-up being introduced. Speakers declared that a six-hour day would soon be necessary in the interests of the men.
MARIXE EXGINEERS' STRIKE. Received 17, 10 p.m. London, June 17. Two thousand engineers have initiated a strike for better wages and conditions aboard tramp steamers in the United Kingdom. Six hundred vessels are idle. CONTROL OF HINDU EXODUS. Received 7, 10.10 p.m. Ottawa, June Hs. The Government proposes to approach the Indian Government with a request for control of the exodus of Hindus to Canada. SMALLPOX IN SYDNEY. Received 18, 12.15 ajn. Sydney, June 17. There are four fresh cases of smallpox. FATAL FACTORY FIR®. Received 18, 12.15 a.m. Brussels June 17. A Are occurred in cotton mills employing a thousand women at Liege. A tiiad rush ensued for the escapes in the -. \-en-storied building, and 150 were injured mostly girls. Two were killed.'
