The insurgents lost heavily, the defenders having two killed and 33 wound- .<•<!■ The insurgents renewed their attack and are now within a thousand yards of the Palace. The defenders have I'ccn reinforced from San Giovanni and Alessio.

The Prince of Wied telegraphed to liio Queen of the Netherlands that the .victory was due to Colonel Thomson's tool and heroic leadership.

The insurgents withdrew on learning of the defenders' reinforcements.

Fighting was continuous 011 Monday. The insurgents aimed at tiring out the

garrison, sending forward small contingents with orders to retrain their lire till evening.

Fifteen hundred Malissori loyalists relieved the exhausted Government troops. When firing recommenced the warships turned the searchlights on the'insurgents' positions.
