TROUBLESOME TERRITORIAL
RLNEDTHE MAXIMUM AMOUNT. Per Press Association. Pahiatua, Last Night. Territorial cases were heard before the Court to-day. One defaulter, now living at Longburn (Manawatu), did not appear. He was charged with failing to attend the recent military camps at Takapau. There were several previous convictions against the defendant. Capt. MoChrystal said he was pleased to say that the defendant was the only Territorial in tne district who refused to attend drill. He had given an enormous amount of trouble to the authorities, declaring his intention of refusing to render service. His action had had the effect of causing dissatisfaction among the other Territorials, Captain McChrystal asked that the defendant be deprived of his civil Tights. He admitted that it was a hard thing to do. The Magistrate was not disposed to act on the suggestion of the captain, but fined the defendant the maximum penalty of £5, and costs 7s, in default 28 days' military detention at Alexandra Barracks, Wellington
