Fisher, Minister of Marine, iu waited on by a deputation of local fishermen, who protested against the rumored introduction of trawling in the golf. They contended that Buch « aohemo would deprive the men 'of their lir«U--hood, deplete the fishing beds, audtesult in monopolies.
The Minister replied that the Government had no intention of introducing trawling. Professor Prince, the Canadian expert, would report on the fish- i£ eries of the Thames. ' ■'*
The Minister's attention was drawn to the confiscation of boats for breaches of the Act. The Minister said that the confiscation had been stopped. 'lt was adopted as a deterrent, and to protect the Department and industry. The deputation mentioned 'the need for securing a ■ market for Thameseaught flounders. The high railway . freights militated against the trade in outside centres. Seduction and Government assistance in the distribution and - municipal markets were advocated. The Minister considered that fishermen's ad- < vances should be made in the same way ' as advances to settlers.
