TOLL GATES AT WAIPUKU.

ALLOCATING THE REVENUE. At tlu> County Council meeting yesterday, after some discussion as to the danger to stock of erecting a toll-gate near the railway, it was decided that the toll-gate at Waipuku be placed ten chains from the bridge. The enßimian brought up the question of the principle of allocating the toll revenue. He considered sonic tally should be kept of the through traffic, and that there was more traffic in the North riding than in the South. He would not object to 10 or 15 per cent, of the revenue being devoted to the extinction of the overdraft.

Cr. Smith took the same view. The chairman: Let the 20 per cent, go to the reduction of the overdraft.

Cr. Smith moved'that 20 per cent, of the revenue be allocated for the reduction of the overdraft or county fund for two yeans. Cr. Walter seconded the motion, on the ground that it would be a fair arrangement, which he considered should be in force for two years.

Cr. Thomson insisted that the South riding should have a fair share of the revenue, or he would vote against the proposal.

The chairman warned the members that if the ridings did not work togother amicably, the day when the ridings would be abolished was not far off. He said lie would agree to as much as 25 per cent, being utilised to pay off the evordraft.

The motion was altered accordingly to 25 per cent, and carried, Crs. Thomson and Christoffcl voting against the motion.
