OIL IN SOMALILAND.
COLOXrAL OFFICE NOTIFIED OF TIIE DISCOVERY.
Tho report of the discovery of mineral oil in Sornaliland is officially confirmed, says a London news agency. A report from Mr. 11. T. BurU, a mining expert, who was sent by tue Colonial Office to investigate, has been received by the Colonial Secretary.
Wltat the opinion of the expert is is not officially communicated, in view of tlie recent receipt of the report, but there is every reason to believe that optimism prevails in regard lo the matter, md further experimental work on the will probably be considered justiftiibio. For the present, however, the eiatter rests with the Colonial Secretary, who, no doubt, will call to his aid tiie experts upon the matter in this '■oiintry.
The reported oilfields are stated to be ibout half a day's journey from Ber-l.-.'ra, and the oil is said to have been discovered originally by Mr. H. M. ii'Rrync, tho Chief of Customs in that urea.
