The function this year promises to be a great success, and should provide a splendid day's outing for the public. Four bands will be competing in the quickstep inarching competition, which is to be judged by Lieut. Buckley, of Wanganui. The hunters' and leaping competitions, which are always .\ strong feature in Hawera, are being well supported, and keen competition is assured. The trotting races are sure to provide some very interesting sport, while a dog trial, to start ,at 8.80 a.m., and open only to dogs that have previously won a prize, should bring out the best performers in the district. Novelty events have not been lost sight of, ' and the harem race (a military mounted event), and motor-ear musical chairs, etc., will be most amusing.
