WAITARA WEST ROAD BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETLNC. At the monthly mooting of the above Board there >vore present: Messrs T. French (chairman), Hull, Lepper, Surrey and Turnbull.

Correspondence, was read from Mr. F. Wilson, stating that lie did not think that road hoards had power to erect cottages for their employees; from Mr. \V. Free, complaining of water being turned into drain on the Karaka road; from Audit Inspector, stating that he would enquire re legality of putting up cottages by a road board; from Mr. J. J. Griffiths, advising that lie would accept £lO for the land required by the Board for widening the Richmond road; and from Advances Ollioe, notifying that the Elsham road loan had been forwarded to the Post (.Mice, Xew Plymouth. Mr. Free will be informed that the. Board considers that no harm is caused by the extra water turned into drain.

The clerk was directed to apply for a £ for £ subsidy from tlic (iovernment on money expended on the Bertram! 'road.

It was resolved to accept Mr. Griffiths' oll'cr re land for widening Richmond road, and Messrs Slaildon and Palmer will he asked to undertake the survey of same.

Mr. Dowman's resignation of his posi- . tion as surfaceman was accepted, and it was left in tlie chairman's hands to appoint another. ' Leave to put in culverts at their entrances was given to Messrs .1. i'unlie and J. B. Crowe.
