AN AUCKLAND GRIEVANCE.

NON-RECOGNITION OF COLLEGE CLASSES.

By Telegraph—Press Association.

Auckland, Monday

Tin; disability under wlicili students of the Auckland University, College engineering elas-es labor owing to the refusal of the University Senate to recognise the course of study undertaken there was again the subject of discussion at the meeting of the College Council. The matter was referred at last meeting to the Council's legal advisors, who now submitted t'lieir opinion that under the provisions of the Act, the Auckland College could not claim to he recognised as an engineering school by virtue of its engineering classes. The only way to overcome the difficulty was either'to convince the Senate that the College was an engineering school, or to get Parliament to pass special legislation in the matter. Members generally expressed the opinion that it was unfair on the candidates that their course of study at the College classes could not qualify them for their degree examination. Auckland as the centre of engineering and engineering classes ought to be recognised. A committee was appointed to appeal to the Senate to consider the matter, awl to endeavour to convince it that the work done at the Auckland engineering classes was efficient. An amendment by Mr Million, that legislation be sought to compel the Senate to recognise the College engineering classes, was not seconded.
