HIGH SCHOOL BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. At tlio 'monthly meeting of the New Plymouth High School Board yesterday there were present: Messrs li Dockriil (chairman), W. N. Ewing, M. Frasei', D. Hutchen and Dr. Pookes. PRINCIPAL'S REPORT. The principal (Mr. W. H. Moyes) reported that the l oad next to the board-ing-house was ankle-deep in mud in wet weather. This was the only spot available for drying clothes, and when the road was opened this would be taken away from them. He suggested that arrangements be made to lease one of the borough sections opposite for this purpose. He called attention to the fact that the tennis court had been taken as a gymnasium site. A suitable | section at the top of the gully had been I levelled, with a view to forming another court, and he asked that this be asphalted. He also asked that the Board to do what it could to entertain the visiting teams at the football tournament in August next. He was willing to hear his share of the expense of entertaining the as the High School team had been entertained when it was oil tour. The matter of leasing a section from the borough was left to the .financial committee. The asphalting of the tennis court was held over. Mr. Moycs will be asked to report on the amount necessary to entertain visiting school teams, the Board being favorably disposed towards the application. • THE GIRLS' SCHOOL. The principal of the girls' school (Miss C. D. Grant) reported that the girls' school re-opened with a roll of (i(i, one girl having left and one (formerly a day girl) had been admitted to the boarding school. The new laboratory was in full working order, and Miss Cross reported satisfactory progress. The opportunity for practical work was much appreciated. She asked for materials for the drawing classes and shelves for the mistresses' books. It was decided that the shelves and drawing materials be granted. GENERAL. The Inspector-General of Schools notiged that the plans of the new gymnasium Jiad been approved, subject to some amendments. It was decided to call applications for a physical instructor. Accounts amounting to £703 lHs KM were passed for payment.
