OPUNAKE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The Farmers' Union concert on Wednesday was a very successful affair, the hall being crowded. Messrs Gray, Lam'hert, Morey and Cutler (from New Plymouth) contributed largely to the success of the concert. The local performers were Misses Pcttigrew and Corkillj Messrs Corkill, Julian, des Forges, Claris, Norris. The dance was a huge success, the floor space being crowded. The musie was supplied by Messrs Cannell (piano), Cl&gue (cornet), Walker (violin).
On Tuesday evening, a stranger to Opunake deliberately went up to Mr Burton's (draper), and commandeered three overcoats and made off. The owner and a policeman gave chase, and, after covering a mile, the culprit was caught by some young fellows who joined in the chase. He was brought before the Justices, convicted and discharged. Mr A. Clough, an old and popular resident, was married last week to Miss Tootliill. In the evening, the only band wo have got—the tin can band —entertained and was entertained in connection with the event.

There was a very large attendance at ■the plain and fancy dress, ball held in ■the Warea Hall on Wednesday night, ■under the auspices of the Warea Athletic Club. The committee had worked hard to ensure the success, whiehl moist haive been very gratifying to them.
