Negotiations liave opened 'between the German and British companies respecting the. direct service to New Zealand. Meanwhile, much friction has arisen over the Far Eastern trade, through the active competition of Rickmer's line, which lias lowered the rates from Hamburg to below those from Antwerp, where the British ships load.
