CHARGED WITH ESPIONAGE
DOCKYARD FITTER ARRESTED. By Cable—Press Association —Copyright London, June 2. Samuel Maddick, an electrical fitter at Portsmouth dockyard, has been charged with espionage. A detective said that when arrested, the accused admitted tlmt he was shortly going to Ostend to meet the agent of a foreign Power, but denied that he possessed secret information. A FLIMSY CHARGE. A gendarme explained that he arrested Mackenzie, suspecting him of espionage because he was a Britisher.
