DECEASED PERSON'S' ESTATES. By Tel-gTujili — Press Association; Wellington, Last Night. During May, - 251 i estates of deceased persons were certified for stamp duty. The largest were those of John Ebert .Mills (Southland), £82,893, and William Brewer, of Wellington, £72,287. The following are the figures for Hie N'ew Plymouth district:—-John Wcmyss Scott, £2739; David Waldie, £1077. TUG-OF-WAR. Dunedin, Last Night. The tug-of-war championship was advanced a further stage to-night. Two of the light-weight teams, Enfield and Xighteaps, rather unexpectedly defeated heavier teams in tlie Dunedin police and Hornibrook's (Christchurch). CRUELTY TO ANIMALS. Wellington, Last Night. The Wellington Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has decided thut owing to lack of unanimity among the societies on the proposals the lime is not yet opportune for the formation of a New Zealand Society. THE LAND AGENTS ACT. Dunedin, Last Night. This morning Mr. C. E. Statham, M.P., introduced to the Primo Minister n deputation of licensed laud Agents who had some suggestions to make in reference to the amendments of the Land Agents Act. 1312. An amending Bill was introduced last session, hut was not passed, owing to pressure of business. The Prime Minister admitted the necessity for an amending Bill, as the Act was naturally to some extent an experiment. He hoped that such a Bill would he re-introduced next session, when the suggestions of the deputation would receive full consideration, and opportunity would he afforded, if desired, to give evidence before the Lands Committee.
