The vessel reduced speed owing to the Empress of Ireland's wireless warning of icebergs being in the vicinity. An iceberg was seen two thousand yards diatant. Captain Wootton reversed the engines aiid put the ship head on, ordered the boats 'out, swung round, and mustered the passengers, some being placed in boats. The ship was not leaking, though her bows were badly buckled.
