CANADA MAKES -RESTRICTIONS. .SHIPLOAD OF HINDUS REFUSED ADMISSION, By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Ottawa, May '■?.!. The Immigration Department intends enforcing an Order-in-Conncil prohibiting artisans, Asiatic or otherwise, entering thi' Dominion during the next six months. The result of the Oraer-in- i Council will be to prevent tlie admission of the shipload of Ufhdus who are seeking entry at Vancouver. Extensively signed protests are reaching the Government against admitting Hindus. It is pointed out that if the present arrivals are admitted the Canadian immigration laws will become a farce, and Canada will remain open to the whole population of India if they wish to enter the Dominion. A SINGULAR COINCIDENCE. CANADA DEMANDS HER RIGHTS. Received 28, 10.20 p.m. Ottawa, May 28. Premier Mcßiide, commenting on the arrival of the Hindus, pointed out the singular coincidence that the Hindus were attempting to enter Canada when the Imperial Government was engaged in the solution of vexed domestic problems. It was impossible to agree f«r a moment to tnc Hindus' claim that as British subjects they were entitled to enter British dominions, for Canada excluded even Englishmen, if Ihey were undesirable. Canada freely admitted India's right to exclude Canadians, and asked in turn that' India should admit that Canada had a similar right.
