The match was played large'y for the. benefit of the sports candidate, whose colors were worn by Tukapa, this being much appreciated by the eiowd present. The Tukapa team all played well, and appeared to he in gocd form. For the home team Oewge Miles was verv safe at full, and his good kicking got'lnglewood out of mem- tight corners. Sid Clarke, at fivc-oigdith, played well throughout the game—in fact, Inglewood on tile whole put up a very good fight against a very superior team. Mr. 0. West was referee, and his derisions were as a rule approved of.
< I.IFTOX v. HIGH SCHOOL Th"c match betwon Clifton and High School, played on the racecourse yesterday, was for the most part a ragged ficramhlc. It resulted in a victory for the country team by 15 points to f). The schoolboy* crossed their opponents' line once ami two penalty goals were kicked hy Hamblyn. For Clifton, Whaka. kicked a penalty goal, and Lye! McKoy, Stoddart and Kerr scored tries. The boys made on the whole a very creditable stand, but the superior weight of their opponents told heavily in the tight work, and the boys were not able to keep the play open enough to suit them. In the first spell the game was evenly contested, and at the close each side hail scored nine points. It was ; n this spell that the finest piece of play of the match was secn-a trv for the si'hool hy Bruce after a burst from behind halfway with the ball at toe. The greatest mistakes the boys made were in failing to tackle low and in feeding Whaka (who was as safe as a house at full-back for th,. other side) too much, when they kicked. Sykes* and Mc.Alurray were the most conspicuous of the school players. In the second spell. Clifton used their weight, and could not be denied, scoring two tries without conceding a point, Whaka proved himself a nice kick, although several of his attempts at goal were unsuccessful. Mr T. Petty referred.
